Penalties for Cocaine or Methamphetamine Offenses
In Alabama, the following penalties may be imposed for possession of cocaine or methamphetamine:
- Possession (less than 28 grams): 1 to 10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
- Possession (28 to 500 grams): 3 to 10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Mandatory minimum penalties will apply to cocaine or methamphetamine trafficking charges:
- Trafficking (28 to 500 grams): minimum 3 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
- Trafficking (500 grams to 1 kilogram): minimum 5 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
- Trafficking (1 to 10 kilograms): minimum 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
- Trafficking (over 10 kilograms): life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
